How Does Alka-Seltzer Xs Tablets Work?
Alka-Seltzer tablets contain 5 active ingredients;
- Aspirin
- Paracetamol
- Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate
- Citric Acid
- Caffeine
Aspirin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory that blocks a substance in the body known as cyclo-oxygenase. This is involved in the production of various chemicals in the body Cyclo-oxygenase, which produces something known as Prostaglandins to respond to injuries. This causes pain, swelling an inflammation. Aspirin blocks Cyclo-oxygenase from producing these substances and relieving pain and inflammation.
Paracetamol is a medicine used for mild to moderate levels of pain. It is also useful for reducing fever.
Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate and Critic Acid naturally form an antacid by their reaction with water. They can decrease the acidity in the stomach by binding them to and neutralising excessive acid. This will relieve the symptoms of heartburn and indigestion while settling the stomach.

Usage/Instructions
How to take Alka Seltzer XS Tablets:
- Adults and children over 16 years should take two tablets dissolved in water.
- Maximum of 8 tablets in 24 hours.
